To the friend :)

The more we love our friends, the less we flatter them. (Molière)

“If you love something, let it go,
If it comes back, it is yours,
If it doesn’t, it never was”…

this is my first visit…Today I started looking at Armenian blogs(never done it before) – a friend sent me a u-tube video: Driving in Armenia
    ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXVPzjdz2Ww )
The video did not surprise me though I have been away for many years. But the poetry – it surprised me that here, someone is writing poetry in Armenian! It’s silly of course to be surprised, we never had good prose, that’s true, but we always had great poetry. I think it’s strange that I was touched that someone is still writing poems in Armenian…as if it’s a dead language and people can only haggle on the market and yell obscenities at bad drivers…well, those things can also be poetic too. You sounded lonely after your friend fell asleep, no? Or maybe doubtful that you did something really helpful – the same way we tell children that everything will be OK, but we know that we cannot know, and we wonder – maybe the child also knows that so much is out of our control…But that’s what makes poetry: ambiguity. Why I am even writing this? I had to wake up to early today to take my mom to the airport – I am not thinking clearly.
It’s 9 in the morning. I have to go back to sleep.

  4. Zarchka Says:

Nick, hope you had a good sleep!
And yeah, couldn’t guess, were you not thinking clearly because your mom left or because you got up early??😉

I’m surprised at why you are so surprised. How strange it may seem, there are still people writing Armenian poetry and not only😉 . Take a look at this site, it is full of modern Armenian poetry and prose from colloquial speech to obscenities – http://www1.inknagir.org/ .

Poetry is not ambiguity alone, it is what your imagination boundaries include and what is behind them, which also has a common line with your life. I don’t consider my writings poetry, those are just my thoughts in some shapes🙂
Sometimes people fail to find the truth which is their indeed, I was glad to help my friend find it, however, the outcome depends on ourselves.

  5. Nick Says:

    Zarchka.
thank you, that was a good site.
Sure, ambiguity leaves room for the reader’s imagination, it keeps the reader longer. Anyway, I don’t write poetry and read it rarely. I agree – and I said so myself – my surprise was silly.
But when you and the people around you do not use a language at all, or do not use it poetically – it becomes very remote. Later if you discover that it is still alive, you say wow!…It is a good thing to discover it again, to find out that you missed it. About your name. Is it Zara, Zarochka, or is it Zar Chka. Korel en zarera, glorvel divani tak…zar like in nardi(backgammon)? Think of it – it is bad if you loose your zar. It’s like you cannot cook any chance in your pots any more. You stop taking chances.

  6. Zarchka Says:

Hehe… my name gave so much room for ambiguity!!! Actually I have no zar coz I don’t trust chances and games which outcome greatly depends on chances and not your thinking abilities, may be that will explain for you the neglation in my name. However it may mean many other things, but I’ll leave it to anybody’s wit😉
Keep on discovering the forgtten Armenian!

p.s. my name’s root is not of an Armenian origin😉

  7. Nick Says:

Zarchka, you are an interesting person.
I will say this(someone else said it before me):He that leaves nothing to chance will do few things badly, but he will do few things. That was Lucille Ball: I would rather regret the things I have done than the things that I have not…
Damn it! I – must! – remember it for my own benefit and do not quote cute quotes to sound cute…
